Choosing to parent after an unintended pregnancy can be an overwhelming and emotional experience. It’s normal for joy and hope to walk alongside fear and uncertainty.
You may find yourself wondering how you will manage it all. There are appointments to attend, decisions to make and a lot to learn about pregnancy, childbirth and caring for a baby. You may find yourself making a list of baby essentials that seems endless. The costs involved can add another layer of stress.
At the Dawn Centre, we understand that preparing for parenthood can be challenging, especially when pregnancy wasn’t the plan. That's why we offer practical support and resources to our clients in the form of our Care Closet. Our goal is to ease some of the pressure involved in preparing for your parenting journey.
Who can access the Care Closet?
The Care Closet is available to Dawn Centre clients who are choosing to parent. If you are experiencing an unintended pregnancy and would like to become a client of the Dawn Centre, book a Pregnancy & Parenting Supports appointment with us to learn more about how we can support you.
We don't expect you to have everything figured out before you walk through our doors. We want to come alongside you as you prepare for parenthood and help you access the resources you need along the way. You don't have to navigate an unintended pregnancy or prepare for parenthood on your own. We would love to support you on this journey.
How does the Care Closet work?
Once you’ve completed your client intake, you can access the Care Closet once a month throughout your pregnancy and until your child reaches 2 years old. No appointments are necessary to access the Care Closet. Simply drop by our office during our business hours (10 am-3:30 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).
Our Care Closet is stocked through the generosity of community members, so our inventory varies throughout the year. While we cannot guarantee that a particular item will be available when you drop by, we typically have a variety of items on hand.
During your visit you may find:
Diapers and wipes
Baby, toddler and maternity clothing
Shampoo, diaper cream and other toiletries
Baby/toddler gear like bath tubs, swings and potties
Formula, when available
Blankets
