E's of Influence

We are influenced by many different sources, some good, some bad. Whether it's in the area of health, people, hobbies, media...influences are everywhere. However, it's how we manage those influences that really matters!

Here are several guidelines for managing influences...

1. Establish your personal standards and values.

2. Evaluate the sources of influences according to those values.

3. Escape the presence of negative influences, when possible.

4. Expose yourself to as many positive influences as possible.

It really all starts by determining our guiding value system.

  • What matters to you?

  • What kind of person do you want to be?

  • Who are the role models and people who positively influence your life?

  • What do you want people to be able to see when they look at your life?

Remember, our lives move in the direction of our strongest thoughts, so, by answering these questions and then focusing your thoughts on the answers, you will help yourself become the kind of influencer you want to be.

All of these guidelines can be used in conversations we have with our children as well, as we seek to help them make good decisions along life’s path. It all starts with the picture we develop - who do we want to become?
